We are approaching the fifth anniversary of the original gossip free challenge, and it is no surprise that the battle against the devastating effects of gossip rages on. It would be optimistic, to say the least, to expect that gossip could ever be eradicate. Of course, it never will be, but it is important that we continue in this endeavor to spread awareness of the devastation that gossip can cause. We will continue to attempt to teach others that gossip is not an innocent form of entertainment, it hurts people.

The issue of bullying has recently received much attention and justly so and this issue is important to us at "Gossip Free" because we know that gossip is often used as a means of bullying others. Bullying is not something that only happens at school, on playgrounds, or between young people. Bullying can be an issue anywhere and is a tactic used by people of all ages. This year, in 2013, Gossip Free will address the issue of gossip as a bully's tactic for intimidating, controlling, or harming their victim. This behavior cannot be seen as acceptable. Take a stand with us against the use of gossip to bully others.
This year, I am again challenging individuals, businesses, schools, teams, churches and other organizations to go "Gossip Free" for eight days beginning on the 13th of each month. If these organizations dare to take my challenge, individuals will be refraining for 8 days from sharing or listening to gossip through talking, texting, tweeting, or typing.
If you're interested in taking the challenge but you aren't sure of what would be considered gossip, here's a simple check list that you can put your information through before you share it. PAUSE and ask yourself first if this information is...
Private
Attacking
Untruthful
Sensitive
Exaggerated
A simple rule of thumb is to ask yourself, would I want this information shared or spread if it was about me. If not, don't share it!
